The music series will feature a wide variety of genre-defying music from top local, national and international artists\u2014both established and emerging. For complete details, visit\u00a0millenniumpark.org.<\/p>\n<p>New for the 2019 season, audiences will enjoy a premier experience at all of this summer\u2019s programming at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. After 15 years as one of the world\u2019s best outdoor concert sound systems, the\u00a0speakers and audio control systems\u00a0at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion have been completely upgraded. The new upgraded system represents the cutting edge of audio technology\u2014once again elevating the Pavilion as one of the world\u2019s finest outdoor audio experience. The $2.5 million upgrade was 100% supported by Millennium Park Foundation donors and through the generosity of the Pritzker Family Endowment managed by the Millennium Park Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>The Millennium Park Music Series is part of a robust schedule of more than 80 events at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion this summer. All concerts are FREE and open to the public. Chucho returns to the exploration of the sacred rhythms of the sacred bat\u00e1 drum, the music that would form the foundation of his history making group Irakere.<\/p>\n<p>Fareed Haque + Casseus<\/p>\n<p>Fareed Haque is an international guitar virtuoso steeped in classical and jazz music. Her highlight anticipated fourth album\u00a0Real\u00a0was release by Bloodshot Records followed the 2016 documentary\u00a0Who is Lydia Loveless?\u00a0about her life and music and directed by Gorman Bechard.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday, July 18, 6:30 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Orchestral Interpretations of J Dilla\u2013Directed by Miguel Atwood-Ferguson<\/p>\n<p>Multi-instrumentalist, arranger, composer, music director, producer, DJ and educator Miguel Atwood-Ferguson will direct a re-envision of the music of Jay Dee (J Dilla). The performances will feature the composed and conducted historic \u201cSuite for Ma Dukes\u201d in tribute to the transcendent modern hip hop producer J Dilla.<\/p>\n<p>Kenny Keys<\/p>\n<p>Chicago native Kenny Keys is a keyboardist, pianist, composer, producer, session musician and teacher of music. Following his 2016 debut\u00a0Everything Must Change, a mellow instrumental hip hop and jazz-infused albumb, he has co-produced the 2018 digital album entitled\u00a0Corinthian Cadillac\u00a0with LA-based platinum-selling producer J. The noted activist, theologian, author, documentary filmmaker and musician released the 2017 album\u00a0In Times LikeThese, including the modern Civil Rights anthem \u201cWe Comin\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cha Wa<\/p>\n<p>New Orleans brass band-meets-Mardi Gras Indian funk band Cha Wa radiates the firery energy of their city\u2019s street culture. In 2019, the band received a GRAMMY\u00ae nomination and last year, the band, whose name \u201ccha wa\u201d means \u201cwe\u2019re comin\u2019 for ya\u201d in Indian vernacular, released their sophomore album\u00a0Spyboy\u2013 a combination of \u201870s funk rhythm, right horn parts and deep, bouncing sousaphone.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday, August 5 6:30 pm<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Love Love Love \u2013 Chicago Celebrates the Music of Donny Hathaway<\/p>\n<p>The great R&amp;B, soul music master Donny Hathaway will be celebrated in a showcase performed by Chicago artist under the musical direction of Corey Wilkes. Named the 49th\u00a0greatest singer of all time in a 2010 list published by\u00a0Rolling Stone, Donny Hathaway is foundational to American soul music, with enduring songs like \u201cThe Ghetto\u201d and \u2018Where is the Love.\u201d His influence can be heard in contemporary artists from R&amp;B to hip hop to jazz.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jupiter &amp; Okwess\u2019 musical expression spans from East Berlin (where Jupiter grew up) to the Congo with hints of James Brown and the dominant Congolese rumba style. The band\u2019s second album\u00a0Kin Sonic\u00a0transcends the Congo\u2019s unexplored musical heritage and dives into a pool of modern sounds.<\/p>\n<p>Noura Mint Seymali<\/p>\n<p>Noura Mint Seymali is a nationally beloved star in Mauritania and one of the foremost emissaries of modern Moorish music. Touring notable festivals and esteemed venues throughout the world, the griot vocalist and ardine (a type of harp) master merges the ancient musical traditions of Saharan and West Africa with a powerful, contemporary voice.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>**Schedule of Performers is Subject to Change**<\/p>\n<p>This summer season, Millennium Park will once again implement additional security measures designed to improve the visitor experience at the park. Outside alcohol will also be prohibited at the six Jay Pritzker Pavilion events with the highest attendance, including the\u00a0Chicago House Music Festival\u00a0on May 24\u201325; the\u00a0Chicago Blues Festival\u00a0on June 7\u20139; the\u00a0Chicago Mariachi Festival\u00a0on June 30; the\u00a0Grant Park Music Festival Independence Day Salute\u00a0on July 4; the\u00a0Broadway In Chicago Summer Concert\u00a0on August 12; and the\u00a0Chicago Jazz Festival\u00a0on August 29\u2013September 1. Outside alcohol will be allowed at the more than 70 public concerts and programs happening in Millennium Park this summer including the film series.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors will have additional food and beverage options at various price points available for purchase inside the venue at the events where outside alcohol is restricted.
