JANESVILLE — At least five cars and one semi were destroyed Tuesday in a fiery crash on I39/90 near Janesville.

Drove images from the Wisconsin State Patrol show the burned out vehicles on the roadway as emergency crews work to clear the scene.

Initial reports indicate three people were injured (non-life threatening) when nine vehicles and one semi were involved in a chain-reaction crash.

The closure is between the Wisconsin Highway 14 and Wisconsin Highway 11 interchanges and traffic was diverted through Janesville, causing congestion on city streets as people made their way home from work.

The crash happened about 1:45 p.m. on Janesville’s east side, closing the Interstate in both directions.

“There is a large crash on the interstate near Janesville right now. If you are heading that way get off the interstate ASAP,” the Beloit Police Department posted shortly before 2 p.m.

This is the second day in a row the highway has been closed in Rock County for a crash. On Monday, both lanes were closed for nearly seven hours after a fiery semi crash.
