Ashwaubenon School District news release

ASHWAUBENON — Ashwaubenon’s Destination Imagination (DI) program advanced 14 of their 18 teams who participated in the competitive categories of the Green Bay Area Regional Tournament, which took place on Feb. 25, 2017.

Those 14 teams will now compete at the state tournament on April 8, 2017, at The University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point.

Two Ashwaubenon teams were the recipients of Special Recognition Awards, the highest honors in the Destination Imagination program.

Ashwaubenon also had eight teams participate in exhibition, or noncompetitive, categories

The Regional Tournament was hosted at Ashwaubenon High School.

DI is the world’s largest co-curricular creative problem solving competitive program that builds student participants’ skills related to: creative problem solving, teamwork, leadership, critical thinking, research and inquiry, innovation, technical design and construction, playwriting, and oral presentation skills.

In each season and competition, teams need to solve two different kinds of challenges.

The “Central Challenge” is one of seven problems that the teams work on over several months incorporating research, technical design, science, math, engineering, and character/script/presentation development.

The “Instant Challenge” is a challenge teams are asked to solve in a very short period of time at the tournament. Teams present their solutions to both challenges for a score.

Teams qualify to earn “place” awards and special recognition awards.
